Join RNs, other hospital workers, elected leaders & community supporters for an Informational Picket to say: Enough! Keep your promises!
In front of Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center on Cambridge Street, near Washington Street.
As RNs, we struggle to negotiate contracts with Steward St. E’s management to provide safe staffing for safe patient care. A contract is a promise. But day in and day out those promises are ignored – often with management saying they know what the contract says, but they just won’t follow it. We have had enough!
In June we negotiated language to increase staffing for the patients by having charge nurses without an assign- ment so they can help the other staff. Much of the time it doesn’t happen. Management also made the written commitment to add new Resource Nurses. They don’t exist! They just won’t comply with the contract.
Years ago, we negotiated that the charge nurses would have no assignment in the ICU. Also for years the contract has required charge with reduced assignment on 5West. Those promises still are not consistently followed.
Years ago we negotiated language calling for an increase in staffing in the ED. Management just plain refused to do what they promised until the ED case came before an arbitrator, and then they said they’d start doing it -- years late.
Now Steward St. E’s has announced a $100 million expansion. But they won’t hire the staff they need to take care of the patients today.
