On January 17, health care providers, young people, and community advocates from across the state will kick off the 2019-2020 legislative session with Sexual Health Lobby Day. Breakfast foods and coffee will be provided. The day will begin with a short speaking program to get folks fired up to take action, followed by a training to prepare participants to have effective conversations with their lawmakers. Then we’ll send folks to meet with their legislators to advocate for proactive state policies and budget items that build healthier, more equal communities, including:
A comprehensive bill to expand access to safe, legal abortion. This legislation will: codify the principles of reproductive freedom into state law; remove medically inaccurate and inflammatory language from the books; repeal restrictive parental consent laws; and ensure all Massachusetts residents can access affordable abortion regardless of income or insurance coverage.
The Healthy Youth Act would ensure public schools offering sex education use a curriculum that is comprehensive, medically-accurate, LGBTQ-inclusive, and teaches about consent and healthy relationships.
Family planning funding, which supports birth control, STI testing, and lifesaving cancer screenings to youth and people with low incomes, as well as education and outreach for reproductive and sexual health care services.
Teen pregnancy prevention funding, which supports programs that provide evidence-based, culturally competent, and medically accurate teen pregnancy prevention curricula and youth development programming.
HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C prevention funding, which supports HIV and Hepatitis C prevention programs, including education and outreach on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), which helps prevent HIV.
