Divided We Fall: Film Screening and Discussion

  • UMass Boston Labor Resource Center -- Wheatley Building, 4-151 100 William T Morrissey Boulevard Boston, MA, 02125 United States (map)

Film Showing/Discussion --  Divided We Fall – Thursday, November 9th, Labor Resource Center – Wheatley, 4th Floor, Room 151.

Join us for a showing of Divided We Fall, the definitive film about the Wisconsin Uprising of 2011. The 2011 protests brought tens of thousands of people into the Wisconsin State Capitol to oppose Governor Scott Walker’s “budget repair bill,” a proposal that was designed to cripple the state’s public-sector unions by eliminating their ability to collectively bargain over pensions, health coverage, safety, hours, or sick leave.  Divide We Fall explores the ensuing public rebellion, tracing the genesis of the largest sustained protest in US history – and takes a critical look at the tensions that challenged the movement’s solidarity.  Walker’s right-wing salvo, which was quickly mimicked by conservatives across the country, as well as the popular backlash against it, have come to define the right’s assault on working people and labor unions during the past decade.  Come learn about this important moment in U.S. history.

The showing will be followed by a discussion with Courtney Derwinski, a union activist from Wisconsin, and Jeff Crosby, President of the North Shore Labor Council.
