Immigrant Advocates Conform Statewide Commission to Monitor Implementation of S-Comm in MA

As part of the “Just Communities” campaign, Centro Presente and its allies are forming a statewide commission to monitor the implementation of S-Comm in Massachusetts. Members of the commission will include the faith community, immigrant youth, community activists, and immigration lawyers.

While President Obama’s announcement of a temporary working permit for a limited number of immigrant youth is a belated step in the right direction, the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in favor of a policy that legitimizes racial profiling indicates that our system is still unjust and broken.  Until the U.S. Government recognizes the systemic problems in our immigration system that results in the exploitation of workers both here and abroad, institutionalizes racism and classism and provides benefits to the prison industrial complex at the expense of the rights of millions of people, the immigration issue will remain unresolved.
