Celebrating the UPS Teamsters Victory

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice was excited to celebrate the monumental bargaining victory by our powerful partner, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Earlier this year, union workers at UPS made history through their newly ratified, five-year, national collective bargaining agreement. The results included:

  • Wage increases of $2.75 per hour for both full- and part-time workers. Part-time workers will start at $21 per hour, and the average top rate for full-time workers is now $49 per hour

  • No more forced overtime on days off

  • Key health and safety advances: A/C equipment for all large delivery vans, sprinter vans, and package care purchased in 2024, with fans, exhaust shields, and induction vents installed in existing vehicles

  • Creation of 7,500 new full-time Teamsters jobs at UPS and fulfillment of 22,500 open positions, making more pathways for part-time workers to transition to full-time work

If UPS and the Teamsters had been unable to reach an agreement, the United States would have witnessed the largest strike against a single company in national history. Instead, we’ve seen a significant step forward for workers everywhere – this contract win will continue to rattle through other industries as a demonstration of worker power. Stipulations in this bargaining agreement reflect the urgent needs of workplaces in 2023, from stable and secure scheduling to higher wages and protections from extreme environmental conditions, pressing concerns that we will undoubtedly see raised in future and ongoing labor struggles.
